Journal of the American Academy

Last month, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology released a fantastic video that inspires teenagers to protect themselves by using a daily sunscreen. In a study, high school students applied sunblock 3 times more after watching a 5 minute video showing how it could prevent their skin from wrinkling versus those who watched a video showing how sun exposure causes melanoma.

Truth in the Skincare Aisle Part 2

For Part 2 of our “Truth in the Skincare Aisle” discussion, I want to convey my knowledge, as a dermatologist to you; however, I don’t want to make it too scientific. I will start with the basics of skin and skin health and build on that.

Scheduling our Physical Fitness

We all know that physical fitness is vital to our mind, body, and soul. It helps prevent heart disease, weight gain, diabetes, and countless other issues. Truth in the Skincare Aisle Part 1

Walking down the skincare aisles of stores is always intimidating to me. I see a lot of boxes always catching my eye. Do I have time to read all these boxes? Should I just start with the major brands since their intense marketing makes me remember their name? Which brand is the most honest? All the aisles are packed with people trying their best to make sense of all the nonsense! I walk away thinking, “I am so confused!” I actually am sad as I reach my car because I am a dermatologist and I realize that if the skincare aisles are confusing to me, how must it be for non-dermatologists?

Common Rashes during the Summer Months: Eczema

This week I wanted to focus on a skin rash that affects many of my patients, Eczema. It is most noticeable in the warm weather months.

How do I know my skin type?

Our skin is the protective armor of our body.  The top layer, the stratum corneum, is responsible for keeping our skin hydrated.  It protects the body from allergens, irritants, and infections.
